Ingredients

  • 12-15 dried jumbo shell macaroni
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, divided
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 24 oz jar favorite tomato pasta sauce
  • fresh basil leaves, optional

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. This step is crucial as it ensures that your shells will bake evenly and thoroughly once assembled. The heavenly aroma will start wafting through your kitchen before you know it.
  2. Cook the dried jumbo shell macaroni according to the package directions. Aim for an al dente texture, as the pasta will continue to cook in the oven. Once they’re done, transfer them to a colander using a large slotted spoon.
  3. Rinse the shells with cold water. This not only cools them down, making them easier to handle, but also helps prevent them from sticking together. Drain well and set aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, and the egg. The mixture should be creamy and well combined, with the flavors mingling beautifully.
  5. Spread about ½ cup of the tomato pasta sauce in the bottom of a 3-quart rectangular baking dish. This will prevent the shells from sticking and adds a tasty base for the dish.
  6. Spoon the cheese mixture into the drained jumbo shells. Be generous! Place the stuffed shells in the prepared baking dish, ensuring they’re snug but not overcrowded. The shells will expand slightly as they bake.
  7. Top the stuffed shells with the remaining pasta sauce. It’s essential to cover them well, as this keeps the pasta moist and enhances the flavors.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. This allows the shells to heat through and absorb all the delicious flavors.
  9. Uncover the dish and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Baking uncovered for the last 15 minutes will create a beautiful, golden brown cheese layer that’s utterly irresistible.
  10. Once done, let the dish stand for 10 minutes before serving. This gives the cheese a chance to set and makes it easier to serve. Top with fresh basil leaves if desired, adding a pop of color and flavor.
  11. Enjoy your Cheesy Lasagna Pasta Stuffed Shells while they’re hot, and watch your family and friends enjoy every delicious bite!
