- In a large skillet with high sides, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Make sure the oil is hot before adding anything else; you want it to shimmer but not smoke.
- Once the oil is hot, add your chunks of chicken to the skillet. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned and no pink remains in the center. You'll know it's ready when the pieces are golden and cooked through.
- Next, add the remaining ingredients to the skillet, except for the broccoli. This includes brown rice, water, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, carrots, green onions, and snow peas. Stir everything together to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, which should take around 3 to 5 minutes. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet with a lid. This is where the magic happens as the flavors meld together.
- Let it simmer for 20 minutes. You’ll want to check occasionally to make sure nothing sticks to the bottom. The aroma will start to fill your kitchen, and that's when you know it's almost ready.
- After 20 minutes, remove the lid and check the rice. It should be tender and have absorbed most of the liquid. If it looks too dry, add a splash more water.
- Now it’s time to stir in the broccoli florets. Cover the skillet again and let it cook for an additional 5 minutes. This will allow the broccoli to become tender while still retaining its bright green color.
- Once everything is cooked through and the rice is tender, give it a good stir. If you desire, you could drizzle a bit more teriyaki sauce on top to enhance the flavor.
- Serve the Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl in individual bowls. This dish looks lovely garnished with a sprinkling of additional chopped green onions.
- Finally, enjoy your homemade meal! It's best served warm and can be complemented with your favorite side salad or steamed veggies.
