Ingredients

  • 1 cup Medjool Dates
  • 1 cup Pumpkin Seed Oatmeal or ½ cup packed oat flour
  • ½ cup Almond Meal
  • 2 tablespoons Dried Cranberries
  • teaspoons Turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Cardamom
  • Optional Toppings: Hemp Hearts, Chia Seeds, Unsweetened Shredded Coconut

Equipment

  • Food Processor
  • Blender
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Start by pitting your Medjool dates and soaking them in 1 and a half cups of hot water for about 10 to 15 minutes. This not only softens them, making them easier to blend but also helps to release their natural sweetness.
  2. While the dates are soaking, take a medium bowl and mix all the remaining dry ingredients together: the oatmeal or oat flour, almond meal, dried cranberries, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, and cardamom. Stir well until combined.
  3. Once the dates are soaked, drain them but save the soaking water. In a powerful blender or food processor, blend the soaked dates with 2 tablespoons of the reserved water. Process until a smooth paste forms. If the mixture seems too chunky, add more date water, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a creamy consistency.
  4. Now, add the date paste to your bowl of dry ingredients. Mix everything together until a dough forms. You can use your hands for this part; it’s easier and more fun!
  5. Once your dough is ready, it’s time to form the bliss balls. Using a 1 tablespoon measure, scoop out the mixture and roll it into a ball shape. If your hands get sticky, a little water can help make it easier to shape.
  6. If you like, you can roll your bliss balls in additional coatings. Options like shredded coconut, hemp seeds, or chia seeds work great for added texture and flavor.
  7. Place the finished bliss balls in an airtight container. They can be stored in the fridge for up to one week, but trust me, they won’t last that long!

Notes

  • Tip 1: Soaking Medjool dates helps soften them for a smooth paste.
  • Tip 2: Ensure that your coconut and other toppings are finely shredded for even coating.
  • Tip 3: Store the bliss balls in a glass container to prevent staining.
  • Tip 4: These bliss balls freeze well—make a large batch for a quick snack!
