Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Zest from 1 orange (optional)
  • 4 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1-inch thick slices
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • Toasted pecans for garnish (optional)

Method
 

  1. Combine maple syrup, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, vanilla extract, and orange zest (if using) in a small bowl.
  2. Place a layer of sweet potatoes in the crock-pot, dot with butter, and sprinkle on some of the sugar mixture. Repeat layering until all potatoes and sugar mixture are used.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or until sweet potatoes are tender and glazed. Stir to evenly coat them with the syrupy mixture.
  4. Serve the Crockpot Candied Sweet Potatoes warm. Sprinkle with toasted pecans just before serving.
