  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large or 3 medium sweet onions, cut in half and sliced into thin half-rounds
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Method

  1. Heat butter and vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add salt, pepper, and cayenne and turn heat to medium-low. Cook 20 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Let onions cool.
  3. Use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth. Fold in the onions along with any oil/butter in the pan.
  4. Refrigerate at least 2 to 3 hours before serving or overnight.

Notes
