Ingredients

  • 13.8 oz refrigerated pizza crust 1 tube - A convenient option that forms the delicious base for these sticks. I prefer using Pillsbury, but homemade works beautifully too!
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted, ½ stick) - This adds richness and helps achieve a golden color when baking.
  • 3/4 tsp garlic salt - A fantastic seasoning that enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh basil - Fresh herbs like basil add a bright, aromatic quality.
  • 5 oz mini pepperoni slices (1 package) - A classic topping that provides a satisfying bite.
  • 1 cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese - Creamy and melty, mozzarella is essential for that gooey texture.
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese - Adds a nice salty flavor complementing the mozzarella.
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade) - The perfect dip to accompany your Pizza Sticks.

Equipment

  • Bamboo Skewers
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Soak 10 bamboo skewers in warm water for at least 30 minutes. This prevents the skewers from burning in the oven. Alternatively, you can use metal skewers, which are reusable and heat resistant.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Prepare a baking sheet by covering it with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. Lightly spray the foil with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Unroll the pizza dough onto a lightly floured countertop. Make sure your surface is clean and dusted with flour to avoid any sticking issues.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic salt, and fresh basil. This mixture is going to flavor the dough and give it a wonderful aroma.
  5. Brush the pizza dough lightly with the garlic basil butter. Don’t be too heavy-handed; just a light coat will do.
  6. Cut the dough lengthwise into 1-inch wide strips. Make sure they are evenly cut for uniform cooking.
  7. Thread 5 to 7 mini pepperoni slices on each skewer. Leave enough space between each slice for the pizza dough to wrap around.
  8. Starting at one end of a dough strip, pierce the dough with the pointed end of the skewer. Carefully spiral-wrap the dough around the pepperoni, exposing the meat as you go for a charming look.
  9. Wrap the end of the dough strip around the bottom of the skewer to secure it. Press the dough together on each end to ensure it sticks well.
  10. Place the prepared skewers on your baking sheet and brush the tops with any remaining garlic basil butter.
  11. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the pizza dough is light golden brown. You’ll know they’re done when your kitchen fills with an irresistible aroma!
  12. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the tops with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese. Allow the cheese to melt—if needed, place them back in the hot oven for a minute.
  13. Serve your Pizza Sticks with pizza sauce for dipping. Enjoy every cheesy bite!

Notes

  • Tip 1: After baking, allow the Pizza Sticks to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container. They can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Tip 2: You can freeze uncooked Pizza Sticks. Assemble them on skewers, wrap them in plastic, and store in the freezer for up to 2 months. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Tip 3: These Pizza Sticks are fantastic with a variety of dips. Try serving them with ranch dressing or a spicy marinara for a kick!
  • Tip 4: Fresh herbs can elevate your dish. Consider adding thyme or oregano to your garlic butter for an extra flavor boost.
  • Tip 5: Feel free to mix cheeses; try adding provolone or gouda for a unique twist on the classic!
