Ingredients
  

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix plus ingredients to make cake
  • 1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 12-oz can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • to taste crushed freeze-dried strawberries for garnish

Method
 

  1. Prepare the strawberry cake mix according to package directions. Bake in a greased and floured 9×13 pan according to package directions.
  2. Mix together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half.
  3. Remove cake from oven. Poke holes in warm cake and slowly pour milk mixture over cake. Cool cake completely.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. When ready to serve, whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip at high speed for 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Spread over cake and top with chopped strawberries.

Notes

  • Tip 1: I use a chopstick, straw, or spoon handle to poke holes in the cake.
  • Tip 2: You can substitute a tub of Cool Whip for the fresh whipped cream if you prefer.
  • Tip 3: For extra strawberry flavor: Substitute strawberry milk for half-and-half.
  • Tip 4: Fold fresh chopped strawberries into the batter.
  • Tip 5: Add a layer of strawberry jam on top of the cake before adding whipped cream.
