- Start by preheating your oven to high broil. This will give your mozzarella that perfect melt and slight golden color.
- Next, slice your baguette in half lengthwise. You’ll want two long halves that will serve as your base. The goal is to create a sturdy platform for your toppings.
- Now, take your mozzarella and slice it into very thin pieces. This allows the cheese to melt evenly and become wonderfully gooey.
- Slice your tomatoes into thin rounds. Layering them will make sure you get a piece of tomato with every bite, adding that juicy sweetness.
- Place the mozzarella slices generously along the cut side of the baguette, making sure to cover the surface well.
- Put your prepared baguette halves on a baking tray and broil them in the oven for about 3 to 4 minutes. Watch closely as the mozzarella begins to melt and bubble slightly. It should be a lovely golden color.
- Once the cheese has melted, remove the tray from the oven carefully. Lay the sliced tomatoes on top of the melted cheese, arranging them nicely.
- Return the tray to the oven for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, just until the tomatoes start to soften and the edges look slightly charred.
- When done, take it out and sprinkle the finely chopped basil over the top. This will add a fresh burst of flavor.
- Finally, slice the toasts into manageable pieces and garnish lightly with salt and pepper, if desired. Enjoy every delicious bite!
Notes
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
